Google Home Mini: Live Stream, Live Blog, Release Date, UK Price & Featuresadmin
It’s no longer a rumour: Google is working on a rival to the Amazon Echo Dot, a smaller version of the Google Home that will be unveiled on 4 October at 4pm BST (you can watch the live stream at the top of this page).
The Google Home Mini will more than likely feature less audio musclepower but all the Google Assistant features we know and love, including recent additions such as Bluetooth audio, and support for multiple user accounts and Spotify Free.
The Amazon Echo Dot is in essence a smaller version of the Echo but with a much smaller speaker. It’s designed to be cheaper, allowing you to incorporate Alexa in every room of the house. It also hooks up to a standalone speaker, which means it has the potential to offer better audio than the Echo itself. From Google we’d expect to see much the same sort of device.
When is the Google Home Mini release date?
Google is expected to announce the mini version of its Google Home speaker at its special event on 4 October 2017. This takes place at 4pm BST and will also be used to announce the upcoming Pixel 2 phones, new Chromebook Pixelbook and Daydream View VR headset.

How much will the Google Home Mini cost in the UK?
According to Droid-Life the Google Home Mini will cost $49. Given that Google’s prices are usually an exact match in dollars and sterling, we’d expect to see a UK price of £49.
Google Home Mini rumoured features
Droid-Life has also been able to reveal that the Google Home Mini will be a powered box (rather than wireless), and will have the Google Assistant integrated.
From the images it has shared we can see the Google Home Mini loses the touch sensitive controls and volume ring that sit atop the original Google Home, now adopting four LEDs integrated to a meshed fabric top that light up as you interact with the assistant. The base is also coloured, and will come in Chalk, Charcoal and Coral.
A circular, flattened device, Google Home Mini is its name suggests: a mini version of its bigger brother.
